Panel 1: IS research: Perspectives from Chinese and Overseas Scholars

Lihua Huang

Dr. Lihua Huang is professor of information systems at the Department of Information Management, School of Management, Fudan University. She received her Ph.D in MIS from Fudan University. Dr. Huang’s research interests include e-business, ERP and information system management. Her publications have appeared in Information and Management, Europe Journal of Information Systems, Journal of Electronic Commerce Research, Decision Support System, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management,  International Journal of Production Economics, Journal of Global Information Management , and other journals. She consults with major companies in Shanghai and government departments of China. She is a co-chair of the program committee of Asia Pacific Conference on Information Systems 2004 and ICIS 2011.

 

Jiye Mao

Dr. Jiye Mao is Professor and Associate Dean in the School of Business, Renmin University of China. Prior to his current appointment, he was a tenured faculty at the University of Waterloo in Canada (1995-2002), visiting fellow at City University of Hong Kong (2002-2004). He was also a Visiting Scientist at the IBM Toronto Lab (User-Centred Design Lab, 2000-2001). He is the President of China Chapter of the Association for Information Systems (CNAIS). He is also on several editorial boards of international journals including the Electronic Commerce Research and Applications, Information & Management, AIS Transactions on Human-Computer Interaction, International Journal of Society Systems Science, and Asia Pacific Journal of Information Systems. He is the founding Editor-in-Chief of Frontiers of Business Research in China (in English). He is a “Yangtze River Scholar” Distinguished Professor designated in 2011 by the Ministry of Education of P.R. China, and a recipient of the prestigious National Outstanding Young Scientist Award of Science Foundation in 2008. He is a recipient of the Beijing Eminent Professor Award (2009), supervisor of Beijing Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations (2009), and supervisor of Nominee for the National Best 100 Doctoral Dissertations (2010), and co-authors of the Best 100 Teaching Cases for Management in 2010, 2011, and 2013, respectively.

 

Minglun Ren

Dr. Minglun Ren is professor of MIS at Hefei University of Technology. He ever visited Case Western Reserve University as a post-doctoral fellow. He has been selected by the program of New Century Talent Supporting Project by Education Ministry of China in 2011. His research interests include Service-Oriented Architecture, Decision Support System, Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Service Science and Engineering, Service System of Manufacturing. His teaching focus on Management Research Methodology, Introduction to E-commerce, Management Information System, Security of Electronic Payments, and Management Information System in recent years. He has completed many projects including two NSF projects and one national “863 Program” project. He has got awards of National Progress Awards, Natural Science o Education Ministry, Natural Science of Anhui Province and Progress Awards of Anhui province. Besides, he has published over 60 papers in journals such as Computers&Industrial Engineering, International Journal of Production Research, Advances in Information Sciences and Service Sciences, Journal of Function Spaces and Applications or international conference proceedings.

 

Douglas Vegel

Dr. Douglas Vogel is Professor of Information Systems and is an Association for Information Systems (AIS) Fellow as well as AIS President. He received his M.S. in Computer Science from U.C.L.A. and his Ph.D. in Management Information Systems from the University of Minnesota where he was also research coordinator for the MIS Research Center. In a ten year relationship with a Colorado electronics manufacturer he served in virtually every technical and managerial capacity including Director of Engineering, General Manager and member of the Board of Directors. He has published widely and been recognized as the most cited IS author in Asia Pacific. Professor Vogel’s teaching and research interests bridge the business and academic communities in addressing issues of information system creation and impact on aspects of interpersonal communication, group problem solving, cooperative learning, and multi-cultural team productivity. His interests reflect a concern for encouraging efficient and effective utilization of computer systems in an atmosphere conducive to enhancing the quality of life. He is especially active in introducing group support technology into enterprises and educational systems. His particular focus emphasizes integration of audio, video, and data in interactive distributed group support.

 

Kanliang Wang

Dr. Kanliang Wang is Professor in Management Information System at School of Business, Renmin University of China. His research interest include IT/IS and organizational change, e-commerce strategies, decision analysis and support systems. His papers have appeared in Communications of the ACM, Information & Management, Decision Support Systems, and The DATA BASE for Advances in Information Systems, Computer in Human Behavior, Quarterly Journal of Electronic Commerce, Journal of Global Optimization, Expert Systems, Annals of Operations Research, Electronic Government, International Journal of Technology Marketing, and so on.

 

Christopher Westland

Dr. Christopher Westland is Professor in Department of Information and Decision Sciences, University of Illinois. His has wealth experience on technical IT, statistical and risk management knowledge to bear in solving project management, security, insurance and business continuation problems. Expert on patent and technology valuation, business analytics, Internet marketing, search engine strategy, & e-markets. He has got the High-Level Foreign Expert Award (3 years), 1000-Talents Plan of China. He is author of six books on valuation of technology, e-marketing, innovation & accounting risk assessment and inventor of data mining and valuation methodologies for software costs, intangibles & technology IP.

 

Qiang Ye

Dr. Qiang Ye is Professor at Harbin Institute of Technology and dean of School of Management. He got the awards of the New Century Excellent Talents in 2008 and National Outstanding Youth Science fund by the ministry of education in 2012. He has been in the University of Texas at Austin and the University of California, San Diego and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to do research and teaching work and has published more than 20 academic papers in POM, IJHM and DSS and other international mainstream academic journalism. The best papers award the Asia-Pacific Conference Information System (PACIS) in 2008. In 2011 as China’s summer academic information system (CSWIM) co-chairman of the meeting and as associate editor (AE) of International Conference on Information Systems (ICIS) in 2011, 2012. He is also an editor of MISQ, JECR and ECRA. Main research field is in e-commerce, financial management information system, data mining, the Internet.
